MS Word Tips & Tricks

  • Scrap - Easily leave a note on your desktop by dragging text from your open document
    • Shrink the active Word window so you can see the Desktop (click the RESTORE icon on the upper right corner of the window),
    • Highlight the desired text, then with a right mouse click, drag your selection over to the Desktop;
    • Release the right mouse button, then select "Create scrap here".
    • Now you have a little scrap of your work on your desktop.  This is a new file, saved in the Windows\Desktop folder.
    • To remove it from the Desktop, select the scrap and hit DELETE (or use the right-click mouse menu).
  • Faux text - To check the visual appeal of formatting on a page, you can work with fake text by typing a simple command
    • =rand(p,s)
    • In place of the "p", type the number of paragraphs you want,
    • In place of the "s", type the number of sentences per paragraph,
    • Then hit ENTER.
