A - APEC Countries

APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) was established in 1989 to "promote open trade and practical economic cooperation".  Shanghai APEC 2001 was held in October.  (Also view the APEC Tariff Database.)  The United States is also a member of APEC.

N - NATO member

NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) voted for the 1st time in history to invoke Article Five of the NATO Charter on September 12th, 2001, in support of the United States after it was attacked the day before.  The United States is also a member of NATO.

Partnership for Peace

Partnership for Peace, is a partnership group between NATO countries and 26 of the 27 member countries (Tajikistan did not join) of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC)

Axis of Evil

- Designated by President George W. Bush in January 2002 as countries that pursue weapons of mass destruction.

 

Note:  Beware of all websites, especially ones involving countries/individuals that are sympathetic to "the jihad cause" and other fundamentalist-type terrorism.  Some sites get hacked and either go down or may send you to pornographic or other disreputable sites.  Also, some sites are removing data or completely closing their English pages.  As always, enter websites at your own risk.  Take precautions:  have a good anti-virus program on your computer, and keep it updated and scanning in the background; do not have shares on your computer that are not password protected; install a good firewall, especially if you use a broadband service to connect to the Internet.  (Some are recommended on the Defense Page.)
